The Conquistador Advocates would like to introduce a regular posting entitled the Security Corner. This posting is a contribution by Dwight Murphy, Vice Chairman. Dwight has been a law enforcement officer for almost 30 years and is currently a Detective for the State of Florida.
"When I first thought of a topic for our initial posting, I felt that we should revisit where safety and security begins. Safety and security begins with us, the residents of the Conquistador Condominiums. Merriam Webster defines security as: the quality or state of being secure or freedom from danger. Each of us defines security in our own particular way and in this, we all have our personal feelings in what security means.
The beginning to this security process involves each and every one of us belonging to our own neighborhood watch. If there is one thing I have learned in police work over the years is that I could not have done my job, serving and protecting, without the eyes and ears of the actual communities where I served. This process not only empowers us but also builds value in our property!
So please, the next time you observe suspicious activity on our property, contact either the office or the Sheriff’s Office to ensure that it is investigated. Vehicles and persons that do not belong on our property and that have no connection to anyone residing at the Conquistadors can possibly lead to criminal activity.
I would encourage each of you to add the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Office Non-emergency telephone number-824-8304 as well as the Conquistador Office telephone number-797-4166 to your direct dial home or cellular telephone. The only way we all can be assured of our safety and security is that we contribute to the safety and security of others".
